To my knowledge, only once in my life did a fortune from a fortune cookie ever come true. It all started at one of the many department meetings the group I worked for at the time would have. These meetings were usually held off-site at someone's house and would be a combination of entertaining morale boosting activities and staff meeting, and always included a buffet of fine home cooked foods for all to indulge. One of the lighter activities planned at this particular meeting was to distribute personalized fortune cookies to each of us, written earlier by one of the creative writers in our group. Apparently it was our secretaries job to meticulously stuff them back into the cookies, which I suspect was accomplished with a pair of tweezers and a lot of patience.
Since our group got along with each other very well and being friends outside of work it was fairly easy to come up with an amusing personalized fortune for each of us that would not offend anyone. So, the fun began. In my case, it was known by the fortune writer that there was talk of me seeing a chiropractor in the not-to-distant future. So, my fortune was cleverly written to say, "You will meet a tall blond chiropractor". Of course after reading it we all laughed, thinking right, this is never going to happen, and then quickly turned our attention to the next recipient of a well scripted fortune.
Weeks later, the chiropractor I eventually scheduled an appointment with was a man, recommended by his wife who was teaching a yoga class I was taking at the time. Appointment day arrived and the chiropractor I had scheduled with was out sick, so another member of the staff filled in for him, a tall, gorgeous I might add, blond chiropractor! Honestly, this really happened!. I had no idea this chiropractor even existed before now and I immediately flashed back to the fortune I had received weeks earlier and a smile came over me. Of course the "tall blond chiropractor" had no idea what had preceded this visit. Anyway, from that point forward I scheduled my appointments with Robin (the tall blond chiropractor).
That's my fortune cookie story.

During the past week the cold temperatures have become very noticeable to me. Maybe because we haven't had a break from it in a while. Normally I don't complain either but when I have to warm up my vehicle for 10 minutes before I can get in and drive, and wear thermal clothing every day, it can be a bit much. So I have to remind myself what the alternative could be, and that is heat, humidity, and insects, the biting or stinging kind! Here in New Hampshire the summers can be very uncomfortable with sweltering days combined with swarming insects. So when we have a cold snap like the one we're in, I just think about how nice it is not to have to swat the bugs away or sweat without even moving a muscle.

Walking along any beach on the New England coastline you will often see the remains of a lobster trap washed up during high-tide or perhaps a recent storm. The more severe the storm the more artifacts wash up on the beach. I once spent a day on the cape after the infamous no name storm of 1991 to find the beach littered with lobster traps (metal and wood), fishing lures and line, rope, clothing, pieces of houses, boats, and common garbage. It was a scavengers dream.
